To the north of the Ganga was the great kingdom of Kosala, made fertile by the river Sarayu. Its, capital was Ayodhya. built by Manu, the famous ruler of the Solar dynasty. From Valmiki's description of the capital of Kosala. it is clear that ancient Ayodhya was not inferior to our modern cities. Even in ancient India city civilization had reached a high level'

King Dasaradha ruled the kingdom from the capital city of Ayodhya. He had fought on the side of the Devas, and his fame spread in the three worlds.  He was the equal of Indra and Kubera. the people of Kosala were happy,contended and virtuous. The land was protected by a mighty army, and no enemy could come any where near.

Observing the armies on the battle field of Kurukshetra Dhrtarastra said: O Sanjaya, after my sons and sons of Pandu assembled in the place of pilgrimage at Kurukshetra, desiring to fight, what did they do ?

Sanjaya said : O King , after looking over the army arranged in a military formation by the sons of Pandu , King Duryodhana went to his teacher and spoke the following words

 అక్షరమైన మోక్ష సంపదను అపేక్షించిన నేను ఆనంద స్వరూపిణి ఐన ఆనందగోపుని ఇల్లాలిఒడిలో అల్లారు ముద్దుగా ఆడుకుంటున్నఅందాల బాలున్ని ధ్యానిస్తున్నాను. ఆ యశోదా కిశోరుడు సామాన్యుడు కాడు. ఏమాత్రం ఏమరు పాటు లేకుండా ఎల్లలోకాలనూ చల్లగా పాలిస్తూ ఉంటాడు. నిరంకుశులైన నిశాచరుల ఔద్ధత్యాన్ని నిర్మూలిస్తూ ఉంటాడు. అంతేకాదు. కన్నతల్లి ఒడిలో ఒయ్యారంగా కూర్చున్న ఆ చిన్ని కన్నయ్య ఒక్కమాటు అలా కన్నులెత్తి చూస్తే చాలు. ఎన్నెన్నో  బ్రహ్మాండభాండాలు తండోపతండాలుగా ఆ చూపుల్లో రూపులు దిద్దుకుంటాయట.

AHALYA

RAMAYANA After a day's stay  in the City of Visaala, Viswaamitra and his  party left for Mithila. On the way,  not for from Mithila, they saw a beautiful aashrama which seemed untenanted. Raama asked V iswaamitra: "Whose is this aashrama with ancient trees? Why does such a beautiful abode stand deserted?" Viswaamitra replied: "This aashrama is subject to a curse.  Sage Gautama lived here with his wife Ahalya,spending his days in peace and holy meditation. RAMAYANA Contemporaneously with the yaaga in A yodhya there was a conference of the Devas in heaven. The Devas complained to Lord Brahma that  Raavana, king of the demons, drunk with the power acquired by the boon granted to him by Brahma, was causing them untold misery and hardship. they represented to Brahma:"It is beyond our capacity to subdue, conquer or kill  Raavana. In the security of your boon, he has grown wicked and insolent and ill-treats all, even women,  His desire is to dethrone Indra. You are only our only  refuge  and it is for you to devise a method by which Raavana can be slain and his despotism ended. " Brahma knew that he had granted to Raavana the boon prayed for by him that he should be invulnerable and invincible against Devas, Asuras,Gandharvas and other such beings. In his arrogance, Raavana did not care to ask for security against mankind. As Brahma revealed this fateful omission all the Gods rejoiced and turned to  Vishnu....
